Mammoplasty

Mammoplasty is plastic surgery to change the shape and size of the breast, as well as eliminate defects of an aesthetic and cosmetic nature.

Indications for the surgery

Mammoplasty is indicated in:

  • small breast size;
  • big breast size, causing physical inconvenience and fraught with complications;
  • asymmetries of an innate or acquired nature;
  • sagging due to age-related changes or lactation;
  • partial or complete removal due to the development of a malignant tumor;
  • other types of aesthetic defects obtained at birth or acquired during life.

Treatment is also carried out in men if they have enlarged breasts.

Varieties of mammoplasty

Mammoplasty comes in several types:

  1. It involves increasing breast size by using silicone-based implants.
  2. Reducing procedure. It consists in reducing the volume of the mammary glands by removing tissue excesses.
  3. Mastopexia. A surgery aimed at eliminating aesthetic defects of the breast and consisting in changing its shape.
  4. Halo correction. Often, such plastic is carried out with the nipples drawn in and is aesthetic in nature.
  5. Repeated. It is carried out in case of unsuccessful plastic surgery, damage to the implant or its replacement as planned, as well as in the case of fibrous contractures, in order to increase or reduce breast volume. More often, these are procedures on increasing the breast size.
  6. Reconstruction. It is a restorative type of surgery that is prescribed to patients who have successfully recovered from breast cancer and with various injuries.
Specifics of the surgery

Mammoplasty is carried out with the use of general anesthesia, and its course depends on the type of plastic:

  1. Implants. In this case, breast enlargement occurs, in which cuts are made at certain places at the discretion of the doctor. After that, endoprostheses are installed, and the place of incisions is sutured.
  2. Gynecomastia. In order to reduce the size of the mammary glands in men, a small incision is made along the lower edge of the halo, after which tissue excess breast is removed. Sometimes liposuction is performed to improve the effect.
  3. Reduction procedure. Markings are applied to the patient's body, along which incisions are subsequently made. After that, excess tissue is removed, and the desired shape is simulated with nipple correction and halos.
  4. Lifting. In order to lift the chest above the gland, skin excesses are removed, and the incision is sewn, thereby tightening the contour.

The drugs used for anesthesia and their dosage are selected individually by the anesthesiologist depending on the physiological characteristics of each patient.

Recovery period

The duration of the recovery period is individual and depends on the general state of health, the type of surgery performed, age parameters and other factors. However, the general recommendations after treatment are as follows:

  • mandatory wearing of compression linen;
  • care for sutures. In the absence of complications, the sutures are removed on the 10th day. If self-absorbable sutures were used, then their special removal is not necessary;
  • avoidance of any kind of thermal effects and pressure.

It is also mandatory to see a surgeon who performed plastic surgery throughout the recovery period.

Benefits of life before and after surgery

Successful mammoplasty has the following consequences:

  • beautiful breast shape;
  • a comfortable size of the mammary glands that does not cause any discomfort;
  • self-confidence and the ability to improve appearance.

Beautiful breasts are the dream of many women. Today it is becoming a reality and a way to solve many psychological, physical and aesthetic problems.
